The last Trust List of 2016 again saw a significant increase year on year for both the number of new charities and new grant makers. Two years ago just 66 new grant makers were established, this December we saw 108.
Of the 108 new grant makers 68 were included in this Trust List; the rest were left out because of their interest in a single cause (a local church, hospital, school and such) or were specifically interested in something that would exclude you as professional fundraisers.
Of the 68 included here, 23 were highlighted as we found additional information (both financial and non-financial) that would be of use to you in deciding an approach.
As always, the majority of funders focus on Relief, Education and Health, with a third being Generalists. The remaining funders have quite disparate interests, including animal welfare, several medical charities, community, support for the Maya people of Central America and even the promotion of philanthropy.
There are two significant celebrity connections this month, one is worth around £45m; the other is a well known character created by Michael Bond. Thirdly, the husband of Jo Cox, the murdered MP set up a trust in her name.
