There were more registrations in June than at any time over the past three years! We saw a 46% increase on the average number of new grant makers being set up (146 in total). Of the 95 included in this edition 45% were picked up through prospect research; a significant increase in both the number included overall, as well as those highlighted. By way of example, we typically find an average of 21.5 highlighted new grant makers; in this edition there are twice that number, at 43.
As always, education, relief and health feature prominently. With so many trusts listed, the number of areas of interest have also increased, with grant makers focusing on the Armed Forces, Conservation, the performing arts, two trusts interested in tennis, sailing in South Devon, support for Gurkhas, refugees and people in the food industry.
With so many grant makers, there are surprisingly few very wealthy individuals. One has an estimated wealth of £175,000,000, another food celebrity is worth £7,000,000. A share dealing platform has set up a foundation (the founders are worth £2,150,000,000 and £1,400,000,000 respectively), as has sports charity, with links to the Getty, Cadogan and Fleming families.
