January 2015 saw 102 new grant makers with a quarter being highlighted through prospect research.
The usual range of trust interests appear (relief, education and community / social welfare), with niche areas including addiction, conservation (particularly of birds of prey), neonatal intensive care units and support for ex-SAS servicemen.
There are several particularly wealthy new grant makers, including a health drinks founder worth in excess of £50m, a Lord worth well in excess of £12m, a business man, who sold his first business for an undisclosed eight figure sum in 2006, and a world famous model, who is worth in excess of £30m.
Two charities have been set up with significant endowments from the Big Lottery Fund (£150 million and £50m respectively).
