During May 2014, 98 charities were set up specifically as grant makers. 27 were highlighted through prospect research as being worthy of particular attention. Of those that have been highlighted, several are very wealthy indeed, with one family being worth in excess of £500m.
The list features many of the familiar areas focusing on education, health, relief, cancer and those suffering disasters. The Armed Forces also featured with three new grant makers, along with trusts focusing on coral reefs, the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of music related to that most neglected of instruments, the dulcimer.
