Trust List June 2018
June once again saw precisely the rolling average number of new grant makers over the past 12 months.
Along with the classic 'relief, education and health', we see several trusts interested in animal welfare, the arts, young people and Christian causes. Once again, there are also a significant number citing good citizenship (via Lions Clubs, with 11 this month - great for local charities or national charities with a local infrastructure).
Whilst we normally see a handful of wealthy individuals, this month is particularly plentiful. Topping the list is an eponymous foundation set up by a telecoms billionaire worth over £1.5bn. In addition, we see trusts set up by the boss of Classic FM (and several other radio stations), who recently wanted to create a 10 bed super house next to Harrods (at a cost of £180m). The council rejected his proposals.
A very wealthy artist, worth over £135m, set up an eponymous foundation, as did several other individuals valued at over £100m. We also saw one of the first legal millionaires from the medicinal production of cannabis. In addition, Sarah Fergusson, the Duchess of York, also set up a new trust (again).
